Sdr. Wong Kam Hoong, a public accountant was elected as a Member of Parliament for Bayan Baru in April 1995.

Recognising Bayan Baru as a district of rapid development as a hub of industries in Penang with its ever-increasing vast population, Sdr Wong Kam Hoong set up the following three service centres to serve the people of his constituency immediately after the general election in 1995

Sdr. Wong Kam Hoong promoting "Buy Malaysian Products".

In order to provide free healthcare to the people of his constituency, Sdr Wong Kam Hoong has joined hands with Penang Than Hsiang Temple, Malaysia Hindu Sangam Organisation, Kelab Gelugor and Residents' Association of Taman Terubung Jaya set up the following 5 free medical centres, of which two are of Chinese traditional medicines and three Western medicines:-

Bayan Baru Welfare Association

The Bayan Baru Welfare Association was formed by a group of caring friends and Sdr. Wong Kam Hoong. Sdr. Wong Kam Hoong was elected as its president to lead the Association. The aim of the Association is to provide medical, education and disaster aids for the poor and the needy. The fund of the Association is obtained from the generous donations of well-wishers and also through its own fund-raising activities. So far, the Association has held three Charity Motoring Treasure Hunts and managed to raise a total amount of nearly RM180,000 out of the three Charity Motoring Treasure Hunts.

The Association has given education, medical and disaster aids to the poor residents of Bayan Baru Constituency. In addition, the Association also gave financial aids to Cancer Link of Penang and also the Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Being a highly committed member of parliament, Sdr. Wong Kam Hoong has mobilised the force of his service teams with the support of the Bayan Baru Welfare Association to serve the residents of Bayan Baru constituency. Sdr. Wong Kam Hoong had given new dimension to the role of wakil rakyat. His role as a Member of Parliament will be difficult for others to match.

Charity knows no bounds. His services teams had helped the Star, Guang Ming Daily and Kwong Wah Yit Poh to raise fund for the North Korea Famine Fund.
