REMINDERS:

1. Since 09.22.98 the Malaysian government has introduced currency controls: Visitors may bring in unlimited amount of foreign currencies but not more than RM1,000 in Malaysian currency. Currencies brought out must not be more than the amount brought in.

2. Since 01.01.99 the Malaysian government has declared an additional rest day on the first Thursday or Saturday of the month (respectively for States that celebrate Fridays or Sundays as a holiday). All government departments and most companies close on that day. ALL BANKS CLOSE on that first Thursday or Saturday.

3. Since 02.01.00 the third Saturday of the month is also an additional rest day for all government departments.

Vacation Rentals

Penang Resort has a wide selection of vacation rentals in apartments, condominiums or homes by the beach, hills or in town. We have daily, weekend, weekly, monthly or long term rates from RM100.00 nett per day or even lower. (RM1=USD0.26 since Sept. '98. For current currency rates go to Yahoo's Currency Exchange)

Vacation Rental Rates

Typical rental rates for a 3-Bedroom Apartment (max. 6 persons), furnished and air-conditioned:

• 1 Night : from RM180.00-RM240 nett per night weekdays (Sundays to Thursdays) during low occupancy periods - minimum 3 nights
•              : from RM210.00-RM250 nett per night weekends (Fridays and Saturdays), eve of and public holidays, school holidays and peak periods - minimum 2 nights
• Super Peak Periods from RM330-RM500 nett per night
• Weekly: RM1,050.00 nett
• Monthly: RM3,000.00 nett
• Yearly, per month, excluding utilities: RM2,000.00 nett

• Rates very according to property
• Travel Agent, Corporate and Group rates upon application

Location

Penang is located approximately 5 degrees north of the Equator (5:18:00N), 100 degrees East of Greenwich (100:17:00E); + 0800 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time); 350 km north of Malaysia's capital city of Kuala Lumpur by road (155 nautical miles by air), 800 km north of Singapore (314 nautical miles), and 1500 km south of Bangkok, Thailand (510 nautical miles).

Batu Ferringhi is 45 minutes by road from Penang International Airport which is served by Malaysia Airlines, Pelangi Air, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Bayu Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Thai International, China Southern Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Japan Airlines. (Allow for double the time to apirport during peak hours).

Airport limousines and taxis are available at departure lounge counter - prescribed rates coupon system. RM19 to Green Lane area; RM23 to Georgetown, RM28 to Tanjung Bunga, RM35 to Batu Ferringhi and RM45 to Teluk Bahang. Surcharge after 11pm.

Car rental companies operating here are AVIS, Budget, Hawk, Hertz, Kasina, Mayflower, National, New Bob, Orix, Pacific, Saber, Seraya Mutiara and Sintat.
